What are the black streaks on my roof?

They're a hardy blue-green algae called Gloeocapsa magma that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles. It spreads over time and eats granules off the shingles, which shortens their life. Our treatment kills it at the root.

Is soft washing safe for my shingles?

Yes — it's the method most major shingle manufacturers and the ARMA recommend. Pressure washing a roof blasts off the protective granules and can void your warranty. We use low pressure and an approved cleaning solution instead.

How fast do the streaks disappear?

The algae dies on contact, and the streaks rinse away over the following few rains. Heavier lichen and moss can take a little longer to fully release as the roots break down.
